Appearance
Human-Infant
He manifests in child form but wearing an Oni mask on his head and his hair is shaggy and unkempt, he wears a white robe with nothing else of clothing. It is unknown if he has a real face behind his mask.
Like Sagako
By retrieving much of the power from him, he is able to control Sagakos, in this case a Kaiju-type. He manifests as a demon face in front of Sagako's face and has multiple eyes and limbs.
Personality
He appears in front of Higashino when Higashino throws Doro-chan across the border, vaguely explaining vaguely how the Sagako works. Despite not intending it for him, he makes a deal with Higashino whereby he would get a wish he wanted if he killed the Sagako so that he could take back the power from him.
A few weeks later he regains the power from him and via telepathy communicates to Higashino about it. When the detective is in front of him to fulfill his wish, Magatsuhi begins to speak an unknown language that makes Keiji angry and makes him lose his sanity, which causes him to end up murdering him in front of traffic.

Etymology
- Magatsuhi-no-kami (Japanese for "kami of the force of misfortune"). In Shintoism, divine beings that cause sin, pollution, disaster and evil. Related terms are Ōmagatsuhi-no-kami, meaning "Great Magatsuhi Kami" and "Yaso-magatsuhi-no-kami", meaning "Countless Magatsuhi Kami". [1]
Trivia
- The Yomi, is the Japanese word for the land of the dead (World of Darkness). According to Shinto mythology as related in Kojiki, this is where the dead go in the afterlife. Once one has eaten at the hearth of Yomi it is (mostly) impossible to return to the land of the living. Yomi in Japanese mythology is comparable to Hades or Sheol and is most commonly known for Izanami's retreat to that place after her death. Izanagi followed her there and upon his return he washed himself, creating Amaterasu, Susanoo, and Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto in the process.
- The mask that Magatsuhi is wearing is a reference to the performance of Memburyu from Saga Prefecture. Menburyu is a popular performing art that is often performed in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture. This is a form of demon mask dance in which dancers hang a drum in front of their bodies and dance to the beat of gongs and taiko drums. By performing the Menburyu dance, participants show their gratitude for bountiful harvests, praying to the gods for rain and purging vengeful and evil demons. [2]
