Chapter 7: What A Guy! A Man from the Past and the East! (何奴!?過去と東からきた男!, Naniyatsu!? Kako to higashi kara kita otoko!) is the seventh chapter of the spin-off manga series of Zombie Land Saga, titled “Zombie Land Saga Side Story: The First Zombie”.
Synopsis[]
A mysterious man comes to Saga after being demoted from his job at the police station in Tokyo. On his way, he meets Anna and forces her to give him answers about Saga's monsters.
Plot[]
It is the summer of 1989, a mysterious man comes walking down the road to Saga singing the famous English song “Humpty Dumpty”, exclaiming that Saga is an empty place. The paper note blown by the wind indicates that he was demoted, to the middle of nowhere, to Saga.
In Karatsu city, Anna and Eikichi search for a Sagako that MJ indicated was southeast of Saga. But since Jofuku's Sagako detector sucks, none of them can locate Sagako. They both discuss the frequency of curses in Saga lately and how the more prosperity is, the more Sagako appears. In that, Anna sees Keiji at the city train station and quickly distracts Eikichi to another side by telling him that there are aliens. With Eikichi distracted by the “aliens”, she follows Keiji to a shrine, where Anna believes she lost him. But he was hidden, and he appears behind her, grabbing her hands and mentioning to her that he is delighted to see her after a long time.
Some time later, Eikichi searches for Anna, the “aliens” and the Sagako they were originally looking for. Back at the mansion, he tells Hanako and Tae about her sudden disappearance. The Busters think that she went to the Disco club, but begin to question who she really is. She accepted the job as quickly as she saw the job offer, even though it wasn't a job for everyone. Before Anna, there were other Sagako Busters; a self-proclaimed fortune-teller, a medium, and an occult maniac. All of them old women who couldn't do anything in real battles and were completely useless, according to Hanako's words. Anna, on the other hand, knew how to quickly adapt to the situation and Hanako's style and tools, as well as being the first new member to last more than 3 days. No one had ever lasted in Busters like Anna, mainly because of Tae's temper and Hanako's human experiments.
Anna has worked plenty of part-time jobs since she joined the group, and Busters activities were just another job for her. When Anna joins the Sagako Busters, she quickly grasps what she must do, buying into MJ's speech and surprising the others by her calmness in accepting the job. She, on the other hand, takes the job because it offers a place to sleep and food for free. For her, reality can be stranger than fiction. With a smile on her face, she joins the group, enthusiastically accepting.
In the present, Anna and Keiji are in an alley talking about Anna's past as a thief and the detective who was with her. Anna came to Saga running from guilt and looking for a normal life within the path of justice, to later join the Busters. Anna tells Higashino that Sagako symbolizes the end of Saga, and only a group of beauties will be able to defeat them. Confused, Keiji asks her if she has gone crazy, to which she points to the end of the alley, where a spider-like Sagako appears, scaring the detective. As Anna prepares to fight him, but Keiji pulls the gun out of him and fires at the Sagako, incapacitating him. Before Anna can say anything or do anything, Keiji points his gun at Anna's back, now interested in her Sagako Buster story.
Without Anna back after a day of disappearance, the group begins to worry about her. Anna is not in any of her jobs, and the Busters think that she left the group because she got tired of being there. Hanako says for her part that it was the lack of pay. Jofuku tells the group that they better worry about the ones that come and not the ones that they left in the past.
A Sagako has appeared on the shores of Saga, and without Anna, they will have to fight it. The Sagako is a flock of goby eels with the actual body within the crowd. The three of them think of different ways to defeat Sagako, but none of them agree on how to defeat Sagako. Their lack of planning causes them to quickly fail and Hanako spills salt everywhere because she thinks that since the Sagako had a mollusk texture, they would be affected. Tae replies that eels are not affected by salt, starting an argument with Hanako. Eikichi tries to defuse the situation, but is beaten up by the girls.
In the past, Anna interrupts a discussion between the two girls about how to get Sagako off a wall without knocking it down. Anna proposes to think like Sagako and decides to use tickling to get him off the wall and out of his comfort. Being a person who is very observant of details and attentive to her surroundings, she was the support of the group and the one who helped guide them when making decisions. Without Anna, they feel that the group cannot come to any agreement.
