Aliens (エイリアン, Eirian) are an intelligent, hostile, colonizing alien race that invades Earth during the events of Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise. The aliens arrive on Earth searching for a planet to terraform into a tidal marsh for colonization. The invasion of Earth was carried out using an Interstellar Colonization Mothership equipped with a terraforming mechanism.
Overview[]
Appearance[]
These are alien beings with six arm-like limbs, standing two meters tall. They are intelligent beings who communicate through sound, much like humans, but their sonic affinity is far greater, allowing them to “see” with sound. Two antennae on their heads enhance their sound reception. The aliens' heads protrude considerably, like a turtle's. They wear thermal vision goggles that allow them to detect any hostile enemy and have a more in-depth understanding of the area they have invaded. They also have a mouth that they keep hidden, and when it opens, it resembles petals. The tip of their heads also appears to be their brain.
The shells of these beings provide them with refuge from external danger and serve as a resting place when they are injured, allowing them to retreat into their shells. These shells have eight openings: six for the alien's limbs, one for the tail, and one for the head. The entire carapace is covered in color patterns that change depending on the alien's mood: fuchsia for threat or attack, yellow for alert, and blue for neutral.
Its six limbs are all similar, granting it a grip superior to that of a human. Furthermore, it can wield four different types of weapons thanks to these limbs. When in attack mode and unarmed, it can turn its back and charge at its target with its mouth wide open, revealing a multitude of sharp teeth.
Personality[]
They are extremely hostile to any life form apart from themselves. They will attack and eliminate their enemies without hesitation. At the same time, they possess average intelligence and are capable, to some extent, of communicating with their kin. However, they do not appear to be as intelligent as humans, so it is possible that their actions and decisions are guided by the alien power stones residing on the mothership.
Abilities[]
Skillset[]
- Thermal imaging—The aliens wear infrared goggles that allow them to detect any form of life nearby. Furthermore, these goggles allow them to see energy sources, enabling them to detect any active civilian or military vehicle and destroy it before it becomes dangerous.
Natural Abilities[]
- Ultrasound—Being virtually blind, they have developed an echolocation system that allows them to navigate and identify nearby enemy life forms. However, they seem to rarely use this ability, having grown accustomed to thermal vision goggles. Inside the mothership, they can activate an ultrasound system to identify any enemy that does not emit heat, allowing them to map their surroundings.
Weaknesses[]
- Visible light—They are unable to see visible light, being blind beings who rely on thermal imaging. Therefore, Franchouchou are completely invisible to them, as they are bodies that do not emit heat. This is precisely what will cause the invasion to end badly for them.
- Loud noises—Their echolocation system makes them sensitive to loud noises that can easily stun them.

Trivia[]
- The alien invasion is reminiscent of “War of the Worlds,” and the aliens' reaction to sound is similar to “A Quiet Place.” However, according to director Konosuke Uda, there were very few parts where they intentionally included material from existing films, and in fact, they were trying to “distance themselves” from them.
- The idea of a blind monster that reacts to sound didn't come from a movie but from a strange fish called the “Warasubo” that lives in the Saga marshes. Warasubo have eyes, but they can barely see.[1]
- It has been said that the appearance of the Warasubo resembles the character from the movie “Alien.”
- That's why, when the idea of fighting aliens came up, the Warasubo were considered. After all, the idea originated from something in Saga, not a movie.
- French art director Romain Thomas was responsible for the design of the aliens and spaceships, as well as the Saga Expo venue.
- While “Zombie Land Saga” has an overall comical and cute style, the aliens’ appearance and movements were ruthlessly disgusting, in a good way.
- Since Franchouchou would have to play an active role and ultimately defeat the aliens, the director thought, “I can’t make people sympathize with the aliens.” Therefore, it was essential to portray the enemies as incapable of communicating with each other, leaving no room for empathy. That’s why, when Franchouchou defeats the aliens, the audience can exclaim “Wow!” and celebrate together.
- The aliens wear goggles that detect something similar to infrared light, so for certain shots the staff borrowed a thermal camera and took photos using it as a reference. However, when the fireworks were photographed with the thermal camera, they didn't appear at all, so the scenes were altered in the film.
- Experts were also interviewed about how the Self-Defense Forces and the Crisis Management Center would act if an alien invasion hit Saga.
- There are tidal marshes in Saga, so producer Nobuhiro Takenaka came up with the idea that aliens would come to Earth searching for them. These marshes suit the aliens' environment, and they invade Earth as part of a plan to turn the entire planet into marshes.
- One of the reasons the aliens came to Saga was because Saga's shape resembles that of North America.[2]
- The inclusion of aliens also ties in perfectly with the film's plot: Saga's prosperity at the World's Expo of Science and Space triggers the curse that makes it the target of an alien attack.
